Art & Soul - The Art Of Well Being: Gratitude Is Not Just For Thanksgiving
On this week’s "Art & Soul - The Art of Well Being," 89.1 WEMU's Lisa Barry speaks to Paulette Grotrian, local mindfulness teacher and one of the founders of the Ann Arbor Center for Mindfulness.
Grotrian talks about the qualities and attitudes of mindfulness, including patience, letting go, acceptance, non-striving, non-judgment, trust, beginner’s mind, compassion, generosity, and gratitude.
She also talks about the importance of letting it go, as well as the importance of living non-striving lives, mentioning that our lives are so fast and that we’re not always present in the moment.
On the subject of gratitude, Grotrian says that it can be an antidote to depression, and that it can be a good way to create a positive mood.
Grotrian says the brain has a negative bias and is always looking for the bad things that are happening. Gratitude allows us to slow down and find the positivity in our lives. She adds that gratitude can permanently change our brains.
She also debunks the concept of multitasking and promotes the concept of unitasking.
Grotrian also talks about how gratitude can reduce stress and mentions some ways that we can express gratitude at Thanksgiving, including pausing to savor the food as you eat your Thanksgiving dinner.
