Ypsilanti Councilwoman Beth Bashert Announces Mayoral Bid

City of Ypsilanti
Ypsilanti City Council Member Beth Bashert, from the 2nd ward.

A sitting member of Ypsilanti City Council is looking to change job titles.  2nd Ward representative Beth Basherthas formally announced her candidacy for Mayor.

Bashert says, as mayor, she would be able to work closer with thecity manager and send stronger messages when it comes to issues she's passionate about.  They include affordable housing, the need for more staff, and trying to attract new development projects to Ypsilanti.

Her campaign platform is Unity and Leadership.  Bashert hopes to address state budget cuts by working with other municipalities in Washtenaw County.

"The only way local communities are going to get through those stressful times is by working together and by being partners rather than fighting over resources."

Sitting Mayor Amanda Edmonds has not announced if she will seek re-election and, as of now, no other candidates have come forward.  The primary election is August 7th.  The general election will be held on November 6th.
