For many arts and cultural organizations, May is "grants month."  The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs' annual grant deadline is June 1st, and many are scrambling to gain access to available funding.  Scott Rosencrans makes a living winning access to that grant money.  He is owner of Grants Resource and joins WEMU's David Fair and Deb Polich of The Arts Alliance for a look at the process and importance of grant writing in this week's installment of 'creative:impact.'

Creative industries in Washtenaw County add hundreds of millions of dollars to the local economy.  In the weeks and months to come, 89.1. WEMU's David Fair and co-host Deb Polich, the President and CEO of The Arts Alliance, explore the  myriad of contributors that make up  the creative sector in Washtenaw County.   

Scott Rosencrans Bio 

Scott Rosencrans is the Grants Manager for Starr Commonwealth and the Owner of Grants Resource, a grant writing and grants management consulting firm.  Scott has been working with nonprofits for over 30 years in roles ranging from Volunteer to Director.  Since 2011 he has focused entirely on grants work writing letters of intent, full proposals, funder research, supplemental materials development, relationship building with foundations and government funders, and post award reporting.  He has secured funding from private, community, corporate, state, and federal grant sources. 

Scott is an “arts hobbyist” who practices ceramics, music, woodworking, and photography for his own amusement and is married to renowned local artist Helen Bunch whose work resides in multiple museums in the U.S. and has been awarded multiple awards including two Saul Bell Awards to her students, the highest honor for High School Jewelry Design, since beginning her teaching career at  Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor

The types of efforts that have been supported by Scott’s work include arts services, public art, STEM Education, at-risk youth, mentoring, organ and tissue donation, restorative justice, prisoner reentry, neighborhood revitalization, LGBTQ rights, private libraries, food pantries, low-income health services, natural areas conservation, environmental activism, homeless services, veteran’s services, historic preservation, community development, and recreation facilities.
