Barricaded Man in Ypsilanti Township Forces Three Ypsilanti Schools Into Lockdown Mode

UPDATED AS OF 11:00am 10/30/18

Law enforcement in Washtenaw County continues to deal with a barricaded man in the 1300 block of Crestwood in Ypsilanti Township. While police personnel and members of the SWAT Team personnel remain on the scene, the Ypsilanti Community Schools have put three of its schools on lockdown.

In a message sent to parents and district residents and an alert on the districts website, the YCS says Achieving College and Career Education (ACCE), Ypsilanti Community Middle School and Erickson Elementary have been locked down as a safety precaution. According to the district, the site of the barricaded man is 1-3 miles away from those schools. The district notes there will be no access to those schools until such time the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office gives the "all clear."

The WCSO sent out an alert at 9:22am this morning noting it was involved with a barricaded man. Department Spokesperson Derrick Jackson tells WEMU News, a woman in the residence was engaged with the man this morning and escaped out a window. She did not indicate the man was armed.

Officer Jackson says there was some discussion of the man threatening to blow-up the house. It has not been determined if the man actually has explosives. Jackson says the Crisis Negotiating Team (CNT) has had spotty communication with the man this morning and are continuing to work toward a peaceful resolution.

The Sheriff's Office says residents in the area of 1300 Crestwood in Ypsilanti Township should "remain inside their homes unless personnel have asked you to evacuate to a safe distance."
