Impact On Area Activities Due To Coronavirus Is Widening: A2 Library Announces Cancellations

Wikimedia Commons

Concerns over the Coronavirusare prompting a growing number of local organizations to cancel, postpone, or issue advisories about upcoming events.

The Ann Arbor District Library is cancelling all library events and programs, effective immediately, and until further notice, although the libraries themselves will remain open to the public.

WEMU’s Lisa Barry talks with Library Director Josie Parker about their decision made in the interest of public health.

Parker says they hold 2,500 programs annually, with around 170,000 people attending them.

“That tells us we need to pay very close attention to how we behave during this Coronavirus situation and to do our best to help mitigate this situation,” Parker says.

In addition to the library, Ann Arbor Public Schools announced it is cancelling some of its after-school activities through the rest of the week.

The United Way of Washtenaw County has postponed its annual meeting and volunteer celebration luncheon.

The Ann Arbor Film Festival has issued a statement saying they are taking preventative measures, but that the festival will go on as planned.
