Ypsilanti’s city council will discuss goals for the city and its 2020 fiscal year budget tonight.
Council Member Steve Wilcoxen from the second ward says funding services like the police and fire departments continue to be a priority for the city, but COVID-19 will now play a role in their decisions. For instance, the city will consider allocating funds to purchase Personal Protective Equipment for first responders.
"There’s an increase cost of that with the increase caution of interacting with members of the public"
As of now, council does not know how much COVID-19 will impact its approximately $15 million budget.
