EMU Board Authorizes Sale Of Current College Of Business Home

Eastern Michigan University’s Board of Regents has given the green light to sell the building that currently houses the College of Business

Eastern is considering selling the Gary Owen Building for $2.7 million to the River Caddis Development Group.  The sale would save the university about $1 million a year in maintenance costs and defer $13.2 million in current maintenance projects for the building.  President James Smith says the College of Business would relocate to Boone Hall on the central campus.  It’s currently located in downtown Ypsilanti.

"It operates as a DTE entity. So we have the save cost being able to use our own cogeneration to heat and cool the building."

President Smith says students have requested to have the College of Business on the central campus.  If the sales goes through, the move would impact over 2,000 students.
