Arbor Day was last week, but Ann Arbor did not plant any new trees.
The city has had to halt most of its tree upkeep and other urban forestry operations due to the coronavirus.
The city’s public works director,Molly Maciejewski, says that includes planting new trees or trimming existing ones, unless it relates to public safety.
“So if we know a tree is posing an immediate hazard, we will go out and address that tree, whether its pruning it or if it needs to come down,” Maciejewski says.
Maciejewski says, provided they can get back to work soon, she’s optimistic that they will be able to catch up and eventually get back on schedule.
