As the number of cases of COVID-19 in Washtenaw County continue to decline, and testing opportunities increase, Michigan Medicine infectious disease specialist Dr. Sandro Cinti says it is still important that extra precautions continue to be taken to avoid getting the virus, especially for high-risk people.  He shares an update on the pandemic with WEMU's Lisa Barry.

Dr. Sandro Cinti credits several months of social distancing for the decline in the rate of COVID-19 infections but says there are still a lot of susceptible people in the community that are at risk of getting the virus.

He says you’re safer outside, but you should still maintain distance, and if you can’t, you should wear a mask as well as when you’re inside.  He credits Governor Gretchen Whitmerfor her proactive approach in reducing the number of people infected but says there also needs to be a balance in figuring out how to move forward.  He says, even though the news is now “generally good,” they are still worried about more waves occurring, including a second wave, a third wave, potentially a fall wave.
