An Ypsilanti Township Board of Trustee is considering proposing the creation of a Law Enforcement Oversight Commission.
Trustee Monica Ross-Williams says she’s exploring the possibility after a woman was punched by a Washtenaw County sheriff’s deputy last month as she was arrested. Ross-Williams says, despite not having its own police department, the township’s oversight commission would address public concerns dealing with the sheriff’s office, who are law enforcement contractors of Ypsilanti Township.
Trustee Monica Ross-Williams: I would personally like to hear from residents in order to know that this is their thoughts and opinions and this something they would like the elected body to move forward on.
Ross-Williams says residents would be part of the oversight commission.
