Washtenaw County commissioner Felicia Brabec won the primary election to be the Democratic candidate for the 55th state house seat in the November election. She talks to WEMU's Lisa Barry about what she hopes to accomplish if she wins the race in November facing off against Republican Bob Baird.
As a community mental health practitioner, Felicia Brabec says that is something she plans to advocate for if elected in November. She says she also plans to focus on the environment and continue the work of racial equity, elevating the issue on the state level. Brabec says she also plans to work on educational efforts and find partners in the house to do that work with her.
She says during her years as a county commissioner, she was chair of the budget and believes that experience will help her face Michigan's serious budget challenges.
She said she would be excited to work with Governor Whitmerand looks forward to working with her and the lieutenant governor, Garlin Gilchrist, should she be elected to the 55th state House seat in November.
