The Ann Arbor District Library is commissioning a Black Lives Matter mural.
A four-member community juror panel will help select the winning entry later this month after Black artists from across southeast Michigan submitted proposals this summer. Library Director Josie Parkersays the mural will be installed on a fence along Library Lane at the Downtown branch by the spring of 2021.
Josie Parker: I think putting visual messages up that promote the message that Black Lives Matter and that systemic black racism needs to end in our community and our country, is an important way of reaching people.
The library also plans to work with Black artists on future graphic design projects that include posters and print promotion, as well as digital artwork.
