Virtual Q&A Meeting Will Be Held Tonight To Discuss 1,4 Dioxane Plume

Washtenaw County

A virtual public question-and-answer Zoom meeting will be held Thursday, September 24th at 6:30 pm to discuss a proposed consent judgement between Gelman Sciences and other parties involved, regarding the 1,4 dioxane plume clean-up in our area.

The proposed agreement includes additional clean-up and monitoring of the plume to be conducted by the polluter, Gelman Sciences.  The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners, as well as the Ann Arbor City Council, will participate in the meeting.  Ann Arbor Mayor Christopher Taylor says the possibility of having the Environmental Protection Agency consider the plume a Superfund site is also expected to be discussed during the meeting.

Mayor Christopher Taylor: I don’t believe that EPA engagement is likely to result in anything better. And it will certainly take years, if not decades, before a plan is even devised.
