There have been several holidays so far this year that have been observed while in a pandemic, but with cases surging and many traditions at stake, what is the best advice for Thanksgiving?
WEMU’s Lisa Barry talks with Eastern Michigan University epidemiologist Dr. Beverly Mihalko for her take on the healthiest holiday recommendations this year.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and top state and national public health officials recommend keeping any Thanksgiving celebrations during this pandemic to one household.
Eastern Michigan University professor and epidemiologist Dr. Beverly Mihalko agrees and says it is unsettling for her to see people ignore much of the medical advice about COVID-19.
Dr. Mihalko says, "Infection control and infection prevention, understanding infectious diseases has been my life’s work. And I struggle seeing so many people discounting the medical knowledge we have about this disease.”
She suggests for those who do gather, that one masked person serve all the food and to try and make any get-together as brief as possible.
