University of Michigan law professor and former US Attorney in the Eastern District of Michigan Barbara McQuade recently wrapped up her time as part of the Joe Biden presidential transition team.  She talks with WEMU's Lisa Barry about that, and the frequent NBC and MSNBC legal analyst also shares information about her new podcast and her reaction to recent events at the US Capitol.

Barbara McQuade says her role in the Joe Biden presidential transition team involved making sure the new administration received the necessary information it needed from the previous administration when it came to the US Justice Department and what issues will need addressing along those lines.  She called it a "wonderful opportunity and experience" to be part of the Biden transition team.

The University of Michigan law professor said there is "room for improvement" in America's criminal justice system.  She said there was much that could be learned from the January attack on the US Capitol Building, including taking threats made by domestic extremist groups more seriously.

McQuade is now part of a new podcast called "#SistersInLaw" with three other women: Joyce Vance, Jill Wine-Banks, and Kimberly Atkins.  The podcast will "pull back the curtain on how our government actually works, take on the corrupt, share their wisdom, and give us their rulings on the latest in politics, law, and culture."  It can be heard on all podcast platforms.

Barbara McQuade says she is enjoying teaching law at the University of Michigan and working with law students, whom she described as "idealistic and energized to try and make a difference in the world," adding she feels it "is a really wonderful privilege and she feels like she is having a positive impact on them."
