Ypsilanti City Manager Ralph Lange says a report by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority showing a potential health threat to future residents of the Water Street redevelopment project isn't accurate.

Lange says Ypsilanti officials are aware of the high levels of contamination on the site. He says the report did not take into account that the development plan submitted by the city was draft which looked into two issues.

Lange says,

“They [MSHDA] should have come back with us and discuss things...instead it was [as if they said], "We graded your paper and it's an 'F' because it's missing all these pieces." It [the proposal] was never meant to be the final product."

Lange says Ypsilanti will continue to explore plans for site. He says it’s too early to know whether the Water Street property is too contaminated for redevelopment.
