The City of Ann Arbor hopes to improve pedestrian safety by hiring a Vision Zero engineer.
A Vision Zeroengineer is someone who is certified to help communities establish goals, objectives, and action steps to achieve zero pedestrian fatalities on city streets. City Council Member Kathy Griswold from the second ward says Ann Arbor is looking at different ways to prevent accidents, possibly adding refuge islands or medians around the city, including in downtown.
Council Member Kathy Griswold: Right now, we have problems where the pedestrian starts crossing the street, and then someone doesn’t seem them going in the opposite direction, and then they’re out in the middle of the street.
North Maple Road and Miller Road are two separate projects the city is considering for its safety plan.
