Issues of the Environment: Michigan lawmakers face challenges in creating new budget
The State House and Senate are working to come to an agreement on the budget for the 2025 fiscal year and get it sent to Governor Gretchen Whitmer before a self-imposed July 1st deadline. Some of the environmental measures proposed by Governor Whitmer have been left out and finding for others is at a premium. 33rd District State Representative Felicia Brabec has been actively involved in the process. WEMU's David Fair checked in with the Pittsfield Township Democrat for the latest.

1st Friday Focus on the Environment: Rep. Dingell to give keynote presentation at PFAS Conference in Ann Arbor
The National Conference on PFAS will take place in Ann Arbor from June 10th through June 12th. Experts from all around prepare to converge in Washtenaw County to discuss the best way forward in dealing with chemical contamination. 6th District Congresswoman Debbie Dingell is one of the keynote speakers, and the Ann Arbor Democrat previews the event with WEMU's David Fair and Michigan League of Conservation Voters executive director Lisa Wozniak.

Fête de la Musique – Make Music Day – was started in France 40 some years ago to mark the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. Now celebrated in hundreds of countries, Make Music Day made its way to Ann Arbor last year, thanks to the Ann Arbor District Library. Washtenaw United: 826michigan - Personal and communal growth through the power of writing
If you couple community building with the power of storytelling, perhaps we can build a better world. That’s a big part of the philosophy of the 826michigan organization. It serves the creative young minds in Ann Arbor, Detroit and Ypsilanti and has now moved operations to the campus of Eastern Michigan University. 1st Friday Focus on the Environment: U-M's first Vice Provost of Sustainability and Climate Action takes charge
In September, The University of Michigan will hold its first Climate Week. The idea is to create a series of events and activities to further engage the community in climate action and sustainability. It comes against the backdrop of dramatic rollbacks in environmental and climate protections at the federal level. Dr. Shalanda Baker is the school's first-ever Vice Provost for Sustainability and Climate Action.
