Issues of the Environment: Ann Arbor's Great Lakes Environmental Research Lab faces potential shutdown
The federal administration has laid off hundreds of staff from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the impact is already being felt locally and in region. Moving forward, there is the potential NOAA's Great Lakes Environmental Research Lab in Ann Arbor could be shut down. WEMU's David Fair spoke with Nicole Rice about where it stands now and where it may be headed. Rice is among those already fired from the lab in Ann Arbor.

There will be some significant environmental issues to deal with this year. Data centers, grid security, renewable energy policy—all of these issues will be before the Michigan Legislature, and it comes during a mid-term election year. How much will get accomplished? 1st Friday Focus on the Environment: Weighing impacts of data centers and renewable energy projects on rural areas in Washtenaw County and Michigan
Large-scale data centers are increasing in number. They can use a lot of land, water and energy. In the meantime, wind and solar farms are part of the renewable energy future. Where to put them, and how to responsibly deal with land use issues, is difficult. These decisions can have a particular impact on our rural communities and the people who live there. Are we prepared for that future? WEMU's David Fair and Michigan League of Conservation Voters CEO and President, Lisa Wozniak, wanted to know about potential benefits and consequences. They talked it over with Dr. Sarah Mills, the Director of the University of Michigan Graham Sustainability Institute's Center for EmPowering Communities.

Levi Stubbs, Gave Voice To Emotion
Stubbs gave voice to emotion — to love, to hurt, to desire, to loneliness. Songs like "I Can't Help Myself," "Reach Out, I'll Be There" and "Baby I Need Your Lovin' " made him one of Motown's most recognizable voices. He died Friday in Detroit.

Issues of the Environment: Ann Arbor Community Climate Action proposal overwhelmingly approved by voters
The results of last night's midterm elections results weren't complete until about 10am Wednesday morning. At that point, the writing was on the wall, and it was pretty clear Ann Arbor's Community Climate Action ballot proposal was going to pass. Ann Arbor Mayor Christopher Taylor, who has won re-election himself, joined WEMU's David Fair to discuss what happens next on "Issues of the Environment."
