Eastern Michigan University Tuition Increasing 3.2 Percent, Budget Approved

emich.edu

Eastern Michigan University is increasing funding for public safety and financial aid next school year.  The board of regents today approved a $301.9 million general fund budget.

President Susan Martin says the additional $4.6 million in aid means more outstanding students will receive Emerald Scholarships covering close to half of their tuition.  She says these students are a good investment because they are taking more classes, staying on campus, and graduating.

Students will pay an extra $10 per credit hour as tuition increases by 3.2 percent.  This matches the cap to be eligible for state performance funding.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
