Many of Michigan's top elected officials attended an Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti Chamber of Commerce luncheon, where one of the state's US Senators was the keynote speaker.
Senator Debbie Stabenow boiled down Michigan's economy to two things. She said the state's economy is based on making things and growing things.
"We talk about innovating and talking about the future what's happening at Willow Run, what's happening at MCity right now, at the University of Michigan, and the ability to expand it to a national center for autonomous vehicles is very, very exciting," says Stabenow.
She said these projects will help Michigan become global leaders in this new technology. Adding new and necessary skills will create new jobs.
As far as "growing things," Senator Stabenow talked about the strength of the Michigan agriculture industry, including in Washtenaw County.
She also addressed the future of energy in our country and said Michigan has the capacity to make any of the parts necessary for the future of solar power production.
