Back To School 2016-2017: Ypsilanti Community Schools Superintendent, Dr. Benjamin Edmondson

89.1 WEMU

Ypsilanti Community Schools superintendent Dr. Benjamin Edmondson is entering his sophomore season in the position and says he's looking forward to raising his batting average.

That means making some positive changes and continuing the momentum they have so far and approving student achievement and overall morale.

He says it is his mission to lead the district in the direction it needs to go.  He adds there's been a lot of change, but he has to be a problem solver and solve the unique problems facing the district.

Edmondson says there is a lot of "school shopping" by local parents and that is impacting their enrollment.

He says it takes time to get to the top, but there is so much more they need to do and that goal drives him, and that some of those goals are at least 3 to 5 years away.

"This is the bar, this is where we need to be, and, until we get there, the work will continue," Edmondson says.

Edmondson says his best advice to students is be prepared.

"When opportunity meets preparation, good things happen."
