A vacant Ypsilanti Community Schools building will serve as temporary home for more than 400 displaced students from Allen Elementary in the Ann Arbor School District.
The YCS Board of Education last night agreed to rent West Middle School to Ann Arbor while repairs are made to the flood-ravaged building.
Ann Arbor Superintendent Jeanice Swift says the start of classes for Allen Elementary School students will not be delayed.
"We'll continue to work on getting Allen Elementary School fixed up and getting those repairs done. But, at this time, we know that we're going to open in another location."
A rental agreement between the two districts still needs to be worked out and transportation plans need to be made to get the Ann Arbor students to Ypsilanti every day.
A water main break last Thursday night caused massive flooding that caused enough damage that the building may not be suitable for use for the entirety of the first semester of classes.
