Race and diversity are issues on college campuses across the country. Eastern Michigan University is no exception. We address a variety of related topics with EMU President, Dr. James Smith.
There has been heightened awareness and concern at EMU this fall after racially-offensive graffiti was discovered on campus. That led to a series of protests, rallies and marches and a demand for a more protective and responsive university administration. One of those demonstrations has led to controversial disciplinary action for four students, with more to come.
EMU Administration has taken several measures to better secure the campus. In the above interview, President Smith addresses those issues and a number of ongoing efforts to create a more diverse campus.
