The End Of Daylight Saving Poses Additional Risks For Pedestrians

Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday and, with it, comes an increased risk of car accidents involving pedestrians and bicyclists.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is urging motorists to be extra careful on their drive home now that the days are getting darker earlier.

According to MDOT, motorists often have trouble spotting pedestrians and bicyclists in the first week after the change back to standard time, especially during the first hour of darkness each day.

To help avoid an accident, MDOT says motorists should eliminate any distractions while driving, and pedestrians should wear brighter, reflective clothing, so they can be more easily spotted.
