Plans have changed once again for Ypsilanti’s Fourth of July parade.
Instead of hosting individual neighborhood parades, a celebration video will now be streamed on the Ypsi Parade Facebook page. Event organizers are asking members of the public to create short videos of them dancing, singing or just saying hi. Those clips will then be edited into a single video. Erica Hampton is the co-chair of Ypsi Parade and says they decided to cancel the neighborhood parades over social distancing concerns.
Erica Hampton: We wouldn’t be able to monitor or control everything in each neighborhood, we felt, in an effective manner.
All Washtenaw County residents are invited to submit a video by June 25th. For details, click here. The original in-person Fourth of July parade was canceled when the City of Ypsilanti canceled all major summer events due to COVID-19.
