Art & Soul: The Art Of Well Being - A2 Couple Makes Positivity Posters To Uplift The Community

Ryan Molloy

Ryan Molloy is a graphic arts professor at Eastern Michigan University, and his wife Valerie works for Michigan Medicine, and they live in Ann Arbor.  They took some of Val's pictures and added inspirational words and created "positivity posters," which they put outside their house and give them away to the community for free.

WEMU's Lisa Barry talks with the couple about their effort and ideas.

Ryan says he does most of the design work and tries to put them together quickly to keep it lighthearted and spread good positive cheer in the community.  He calls them "word art on steroids."  Val says they're a bit like the free little libraries you see in some neighborhoods, but, instead of books, they are sharing art.

They started creating the posters in early April and didn't expect to be still doing it in June.

But, so far, they have made over 30 posters, which they've seen put up in their neighborhood in Ann Arbor, as well as in Ypsilanti, and some have been requested from as far away as California.
