EMU Will Not Host September 11 Ceremony This Year Because Of COVID-19

WEMU

Due to COVID-19, Eastern Michigan University will not hold its annual September 11 memorial ceremony on campus this year.

EMU Spokesperson Geoff Larcom says a 14-foot long support beam from the World Trade Center remains on permanent display at the corner of West Cross and Perrin Streets in Ypsilanti.  While there is no ceremony this year, community members can still visit the beam to pay their respects for those who died in the September 11 attacks.

Geoff Larcom: People can visit the memorial collectively or privately, but if you do it collectively, of course maintain physical distancing and mask.

The Ann Arbor Fire Department has not planned any events but will display a large American flag at their main fire station on North 5th Avenue to honor the victims.
