Washtenaw Economic Club Reviews Presidential Election

Wiki Commons

The Washtenaw Economic Clubheld a virtual meeting Thursday to review the November 3rd general election.

Keynote speaker and longtime political journalist Tim Skubick said he believes that Joe Biden won the State of Michigan because of actions taken by a citizens group back in 2018.

Tim Skubick: They put on the ballot a series of election reforms that not only led to no reason absentee voting, but same day registration and other election reforms, which brought more people into the process.

Skubick added that by allowing more people to vote absentee, it helped Washtenaw County obtain over a 68% voter turnout for the general presidential election.  He does not believe that local health orders, like the COVID-19 stay-in-place order that was issued for University of Michigan students, discouraged students from voting prior to the election.
