As students prepare to move out as the semester ends, Ann Arbor is again teaming with local charities to collect items that can be donated instead of discarded.

Move Out Ann Arbor is a series of events where students who are getting rid of items can donate them for reuse instead of winding up in the landfill.

City spokesman Robert Kellar says the big turnover when students leave produces a lot of discarded stuff.

“And what we have recognized for a long time is that there is both an opportunity to reduce what is getting thrown away but also an opportunity to provide people in the community some much needed material that otherwise goes wasted.”

The city has teamed with U-M, local charities, and fraternities and sororities to collect certain items that are in good condition for donations to those in need.
