Michigan Lawmakers Working On Another Go At Eliminating ‘Tampon Tax’

Lawmakers in Lansing are working on getting rid of the state’s tax on feminine hygiene products.  This isn’t the first attempt to get rid of the so-called “tampon tax.”

Similar efforts were made last session…and the session before that.  But Democratic Representative Tenisha Yanceyhopes this time will be different.  That’s in part, because the makeup of the Legislatureincludes more women than ever before.

“And everyone knows that feminine hygiene products are not a choice. That’s something that we have to use.”

Yancey says the bills she’s working on would be written so eliminating the tax wouldn’t hurt the school aid fund.  She says she hopes to introduce the legislation this month.
