Michigan’s unemployment rate remained unchanged last month. That’s according to the latest jobless numbers compiled by the state. We have details from Rick Pluta.
The numbers show a complex situation as the number of unemployed people in Michigan went up last month. But so did the number of people who are measured as part of the workforce because they are employed or looking for work.
Regardless, unemployment in Michigan – like the rest of the country – remains low. The jobless rate of 4.2% is considered for statistical purposes to be at or near full employment.
Manufacturing employment in Michigan saw a bump as factories hired or recalled workers. The leisure-and-hospitality sector also showed job gains. But Michigan’s jobless rate still remains slightly higher than the national average.
