The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners will consider a resolution Wednesday night that, if approved, will impose a fine for residents who don’t comply with COVID-19 guidelines established by the county.
Commissioner Katie Scottsays the resolution specifically refers to the county’s health order that limits indoor gatherings to 10 people and to 25 for outdoors. The proposed penalty is $1,000 per violation, per day. The fines would apply to people living in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti because of the student populations at the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University.
Commissioner Katie Scott: One of the concerns that I know that we had in Washtenaw County is with these two big schools, bringing students back, what that might do to our COVID numbers if these students were having bigger parties.
The board is still trying to determine how the penalties will be enforced.
