The Washtenaw County Road Commission says drivers need to take it slow on the road as we’re expected to get between 2-3 inches of snow during the next 24 hours.
The road commission says salt and plow trucks are ready to be deployed as snow accumulates on the roads. Primary routes, like US-23 and I-94, will be among the first to be cleared followed by secondary routes, that include neighborhood roads. Emily Kizer is a spokesperson for the road commission.
Emily Kizer: If you can park your vehicle off the street, if possible. Make sure to keep little ones away, if you have kids at home, keep them away from playing near the road, we just want them to stay away from the road. So, those are big plow trucks coming down narrow streets when we start working on our secondary routes.
Kizer says road commissions across the country, including here in Washtenaw County, are facing a shortage of certified plow drivers this winter. As of now, Kizer says it has not affected their operations but it could if current drivers have to quarantine because of COVID-19.
