The federal administration has targeted environmental agencies and protection programs in its efforts to reshape the government. The Environmental Protection Agency has seen layoffs and firings and budget cuts. Now, there is a government shutdown creating more issues. #OTGYpsi: Ypsilanti Farmers Market to continue food assistance program launched during government shutdown
After the 43-day federal government shutdown briefly cut off Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) support for thousands of Washtenaw County households, the Ypsilanti Farmers Market launched a program to ensure residents could still access high-quality local foods. #OTGYpsi: YCS Resiliency Center marks five years of serving underprivileged students and families
At Ypsilanti Community Schools, the Resiliency Center has grown into one of these spaces that really is making a difference in our community. Since its start, the center has expanded from a single room into a multi-room resource hub, offering clothing, hygiene supplies, internet access, and connections to community services for hundreds of families each year. Lee Van Roth talked about the Resiliency Center's history and the work it does today with its director, Cherisa Allen.

Issues of the Environment: University of Michigan working to win the national 'Campus Race to Zero Waste' competition
The race to eliminate waste is on, and the University of Michigan is working to win! The Campus Race to Zero Waste is the nation’s leading collegiate waste-reduction competition. Michigan won the competition in 2024 but fell short last year. The 2026 competition is underway and runs through the end of March. WEMU's David Fair spoke with U-M Sustainability Program Manager Alison Richardson about the competition and how it benefits the environment.

Washtenaw United: UWSEM no-cost tax preparation services available to those making under $69,000 per year
Tax season is in full swing now. Not many people love paying taxes, but for low-income individuals and families, it can be a hardship just finding the money for someone to prepare the taxes. Here in Washtenaw County and Southeast Michigan, there is expert, IRS-certified tax preparation assistance available, and there is no cost to any individual or couple earning less than $69,000 a year. Last year, in Washtenaw County alone, it saved residents over $2 million. WEMU's David Fair got the details in this conversation with the United Way’s Megan Tybos.
