Washtenaw United: Addressing a growing need for heating and energy assistance in Washtenaw County and Southeast Michigan
What do you do in the cold of winter if you can't pay your heating bill? Sadly, thousands in the area face that crisis question. There are some resources available, and, on "Washtenaw United," you'll learn how to tap into them. Sean Scane is director of utility assistance with the United Way for Southeastern Michigan. He joined WEMU's David Fair with the latest information on the growing need for assistance and the efforts to expand the Michigan Energy Assistance Program.

#OTGYpsi: Ypsilanti "death cafes" provides support to those experiencing grief over loved ones and preparing for their own final moments
Losing a loved one can be devastating. For many, it becomes isolating. Finding support and comfort in others is the notion behind the work of Hanna Hasselshwert, who owns Acacia End of Life Services in Ypsilanti and runs a monthly “Death Café” to help offer support and grief education. Scientists are both astounded and alarmed. 2023 was the warmest year ever recorded, and it’s not even close. For quite some time, Ypsilanti went without a brick-and-mortar art supply store. That is no longer the case. Megan Foldenauer opened Ypsi Art Supply & Atelier almost a year ago.
