Open enrollment for "Obamacare" starts today. Those who enroll in the health insurance marketplace may have to pay more for it soon.
Rates are expected to go up by over 20%. Krista Nordberg, director of enrollment for the Washtenaw Health Plan, says those in our county who use "Obamacare" may receive help in paying the difference in rate increases.
"We do believe, for lower-income residents who have been benefiting from the tax credit subsidies, that their subsidy will absorb much of that increase."
In Washtenaw County, more than 20,000 people don't have medical insurance. If you don't have insurance and don't register by December 31st, you will face a tax penalty in 2017. That fine is about $700 per person.
