Art & Soul: The Art of Better Living, Post Election Perspective

89.1 WEMU

This week on Art and Soul, I speak with Dr. Robert Quinn, co-founder of the Center for Positive Organizations at the University of Michigan, author, speaker, and professor in the Ross School of Business.

We talk about how to look at last week's election results and how having the proper perspective can make a difference in any situation you are dealing with in life.

Dr. Quinn advises that we not get stuck in the conflicts, saying "when we're angry, we face the danger of becoming what we hate."

He says when we clarify our highest possible purpose we change the whole dynamic of a situation entirely.  This is how we transform pain into purpose into contribution.

Dr. Quinn says ask yourself "How do I look at something with compassion, and what do I have to contribute to make everybody better?"

He says we can keep suffering or learn from the pain and become what we are truly all about.

His advice:  Replace fear with hope and faith and forward movement.
