EMU Food Pantry Continues Limited Operations To Help Students

Eastern Michigan University

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, many Eastern Michigan University students are turning to the school’s on-campus food pantry for assistance.

EMU has moved classes online and told students who can go home to do so, but it has permitted Swoop’s Food Pantry to remain open on a limited basis, at least through Thursday.

Joelle Summers, a grad assistant working at the pantry, says more than 150 students came to them for food assistance last week, even though they were only open for a few hours on three days.

“We think it’s really important that we remain open at this time for students that maybe couldn’t make it last week, so that they’re able to get what they need,” Summers says.

Summers says they are still waiting on a final decision from EMU officials, but she says she hopes they will remain open in the weeks to come so they can continue helping students in need.
