The Washtenaw County Department of Elections wants to assure voters that absentee ballots will be counted on Election Day.
The elections department says some voters are concerned about absentee ballot counts being delayed as a result of more people registering to vote absentee in the November general election. Director of Elections Ed Golembiewskisays Michigan law requires that absentee ballots be counted on Election Day. Golembiewski adds that the City of Ann Arbor has purchased a high-speed ballot tabulator to count absentee ballots.
Ed Golembiewski: It’s capable of tabulating more ballots in less time than a traditional electronic ballot tabular is.
Out of the over 310,000 voters currently registered in Washtenaw County, nearly 135,000 have been issued an absentee ballot for the general election.
