U-M Develops Comprehensive COVID-19 Plan For 2021 Winter Term

University of Michigan

The University of Michigan has developed a comprehensive plan to address COVID-19 concerns for its upcoming 2021 winter term.

Students who will be moving into the university’s residence halls will need to be tested for COVID-19 prior to arriving on campus.  There will also be mandatory weekly testing for undergraduates who live, learn and work on campus.  Asymptomatic testing for all other students, faculty and staff will also be offered.  Dr. Preeti Malani is the chief health officer at the University of Michigan and says testing will continue to be essential even as the COVID-19 vaccine becomes available.

Dr. Preeti Malani: I’m an infectious disease physician at Michigan Medicine and I’m still waiting to hear when I might be vaccinated. As to when our students who are in the lower-risk categories, when they might expect to be vaccinated, it’s unclear.

As part of the comprehensive plan, fewer than 1,800 undergraduate residents will be living on campus during the winter term.  Nearly 90% of the courses offered by the university in the winter term will also be online.  For more information on the plan, click here.
