Alpha House

Homeless and runaway shelters across Washtenaw County are ready to take in residents who might not have a place to go to avoid the next several subzero nights. WEMU’s Ana Longoria reports.

Alpha House East is now open and providing shelter to the unhoused. The majority are Black women who are heads of households. WEMU's David Fair talked with Shonagh Taruza, the executive director of the Interfaith Hospitality Network at Alpha House, about housing insecurity, homelessness and the systems that make it difficult to improve the situation.

Trinity Health Hospital in Ann Arbor, working with the Interfaith Hospitality Network, has opened Alpha House East on its campus for families experiencing homelessness. WEMU’s Ana Longoria has the details.
