EMU Joins Washtenaw County And Others To Expand Collaboration In Support Of YCS

Eastern Michigan University,Ypsilanti Community Schools, and Washtenaw County have joined forces for an education initiative.  The program was announced Saturday morning.  89.1 WEMU's Jorge Avellan was there and has the story.
 

"We all have the same goal, which is to support young men and young women to succeed, to move forward, and do the things in life they dream of."

EMU PresidentJames Smith told a crowd of about 200 community leaders during a breakfast on campus, that Eastern is committed to working with K-12 students.  Eastern will offer resources through a program called "Collaboration for Change."  

Alena Zachery-Ross is the superintendent for Ypsilanti Community Schools.

"It benefits them by having mentoring, the social, emotional supports and the academic resources," said Zachery-Ross.
