Washtenaw County Residents Turn To Online Farmers Market For Local Produce

Growing Hope

An effort to safely improve access to local produce and help Washtenaw County’s farmers during the ongoing health crisis is proving more successful than originally anticipated.

Local non-profit Growing Hope launched the Ypsi Area Online Market a little over three weeks ago as a way to help farmers sell their produce while limiting physical interaction between people.

Growing Hope’s Farmers Market and Nutrition Manager Dayna Popkey says it's already generated more than $12,000 in sales.

“Farmers are saying that this is more than they would be normally selling at this time of year, and it's been really helpful for them to have this outlet,” Popkey says.

Popkey says it’s proving so successful, they will likely continue to run it after the pandemic ends.
