City Of Ypsilanti Considering Cuts To Balance Budget

Ypsilanti’s city council is considering making cuts to balance the city’s budget.  


Mayor Beth Bashertsays there’s a $349,000 deficit in the current budget the city is considering adopting.  She says they’re reconsidering creating new, full-time positions, such as a social worker at the police department.  Bashert mentions other steps city council is taking to address the issue.

Mayor Beth Bashert: It has requested that the city manager take a look at what could be cut, and then should we need to take the rest out of reserves.

City staff is expected to present those possible cuts to the council in June.
