To make it easier for parents to help their kids celebrate Halloween this year during the pandemic, Eastern Michigan University’s Police Department will hold a drive-thru candy event on Friday, October 30th.
Between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., EMU Police will hand out about 200 bags of candy in the parking lot of the university’s Convocation Center. Sgt. Joe Torres says families are encouraged to decorate their cars and wear costumes as they collect the free candy.
Sgt. Joe Torres: We wanted to make sure that the community still had something to look forward to and be positive for the kids, so we found a way to make it as safe as possible and individually packaged the bags.
At 6:45 pm, families are also invited to a drive-in movie that will be shown in the parking lot of the Convocation Center. The City of Ypsilanti is discouraging residents from going from house to house to trick-or-treat. Meanwhile, the City of Ann Arbor recommends for residents to follow the county’s Halloween guidelines which include wearing a face covering, social distancing, and staying home if you’re sick.
