U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin says she will not be endorsing any candidates ahead of next year’s Democratic primary elections for Michigan’s open Senate and Governor's seats.
Michigan has not had open races for both Governor and a U.S. Senate seat the same year since the 1913 ratification of the 17th Amendment allowing the direct election of Senators.
Slotkin says the party has a deep bench and many qualified candidates.
“It’s going to be a good competition. My big thing is we’ve got to have someone who keeps Michigan always at the center of everything that they’re doing, and I want a good, clean, healthy, adult competition.”
Currently, Congresswoman Haley Stevens, State Senator Mallory McMorrow, and former Wayne County Health Director Abdul El-Sayed are the Democrats running for Senate, while Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist, and Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson are running for Governor.
