U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin was in town on Wednesday to talk to Washtenaw County leaders about issues impacting the community.
Slotkin met with Congresswoman Debbie Dingell and community officials in a closed-door meeting at the Washtenaw County Learning Resource Center.
Just prior to the discussion, the senator told WEMU that she’s been holding similar talks around the state, and the same issues keep getting raised.
“There’s a lot of churn in Washington, a lot of uncertainty with the tariffs, just a lot of open questions in the system, so I’m just trying to meet with as many local leaders as I can.”
Slotkin says the level of uncertainty among those she has spoken to recently reminds her of the early days of COVID, when it was difficult to anticipate what was going to happen next.
She says the uncertainty regarding on-and-off tariffs is making things very difficult for small business owners across Michigan.
