Joshua Nieman

Ever since he can remember, Joshua Nieman has involved himself in storytelling. At first, it meant getting caught drawing comics on his desk in elementary school, but later it would become writing, recording, illustrating, photography and more. Eventually, Josh found himself involved in his high school’s student-published news magazine and subsequently fell in love with journalism. That love would manifest into a handful of different podcast ventures over the years, but the one that stuck was his show, Living Lanterns, for EMU’s news organization, The Eastern Echo.

It was during his time at EMU, pursuing a degree in creative writing, that he took a student-radio course. This sparked an entirely new avenue of interest, leading him to apply to 89.1 WEMU as a data entry clerk. As his employment went on, Josh would explore more avenues of the station like board operating, story writing, and wrap recording. This eventually led him to becoming a bonafide digital reporter for WEMU, post graduation, and getting the opportunity to resurrect and host the show Hidden In Plain Sight.

As the child of two professional musicians, he considers himself extremely lucky to be able to listen to jazz all day while he works.
