Plans To Build An Amtrak Platform In Ypsilanti Remain Uncertain

Wiki Commons

Plans to build an Amtrak platform in Ypsilanti’s Depot Town remain uncertain.

City council had allocated $2 million for the project, but they’re now considering using the funds for other projects because construction plans were put on hold when the city was not awarded a federal grant that would’ve paid for about 70% of the $3.8 million project.  Council Member Steve Wilcoxen from the second ward explains one of the projects they’re considering using the funds on.

Council Member Wilcoxen: We have the Pen Dam, which we put in for a grant for that. We put up $500,000 matching money for that program.

Wilcoxen says the city is also considering using part of the $2 million for additional COVID-19 response, such as offering more care packages to residents that include masks and hand sanitizer.
